1st Public outing with TENC

Well actually the first was 7 May at a new evening food market in Woodstock.

Today (12 June) I went down to Simons Town on the train with a friend. I made yarn and knitted along the way. The activities attracted friendly attention. Three conversations began:
  • The introduction of contemporary technological devices (I pads) at schools, without there being sufficient infrastructure to support the use of them; financially/technologically
  • A parents concern of the 'dumbing down' of the standards of education, and the expectation of access to technology without there being adequate support.
  • A 'Coloured' teacher who had taught in UK for ten years being ostracised by her community, when she returned to S.A. to teach, for being too 'white' and bringing in values which 'had no place in the community' [tall poppy syndrome]
It was so heartening to be sitting knitting in public, and have people open themselves!
