Can there be more creative approaches to
teaching. Can we develop other learning systems, other than what’s on offer;
National/governmental system, Waldorf.
Can we learn more useful things, things
that have immediate application in the world.
There seems to be a prevailing attitude of
entitlement among learners. “I have paid for the certificate, give it to me”.
There is an absence of work ethic; a Qualification is something earned, not
bought. Entitlement seems to consort well with Leisure Culture; the main goal
in life is to relax and be entertained, possibly follow ones bliss (but the
latter may require too much effort)
Disciple issues:
Students lack respect toward adults;
teachers being threatened verbally and physically. Teachers have been
assaulted. There are feelings that students are not assisted in establishing
healthy respectful boundaries, as a result there is diminished sense of
personal accountability and responsibility.
There is a reticence on the part of teachers
to fail students because of the admin it entails. It is easier to lower the
standard.
Reading, especially books is out of fashion. The contemporary essay is cut
and paste.
