A
commentator who was planning to study further after school, has found
this unnecessary, as life and her current job has taken her in a
different direction. This suggests that what is studied does not
necessarily become the field of application. Her daughter is
currently being adequately educated in a private school. She reckons
that there are issues within the education system as teachers seem to
be really unhappy, though she is not quiet sure what the issues are.
Tertiary
level lecturing; often the lecturer, an authority in their field, is
not really competent at teaching. At tertiary level students ought to
have already developed the skills to research and write at school.
Often this is not the case.
The
new CAPS system loads additional admin for the teacher. It aims at
creating universal standards by being textbook based. The model does
not allow for interpretation or modification to suit different
contexts. Its focus is more on qualification/form at the cost of
content. It seems to be an over-reaction to the previous OBE.
There
is more opportunity for deeper levels of creativity in environments
with less funding. Often at schools with great abundance of
resources, art projects seem to be “kit” constructions of bought
objects. Creativity, in these privileged situations, is thus
displayed by creative expressions of shopping/consuming.
