It has been a while since I have written, much has been happening, though not much public knitting!

TENC has been interviewed by Visi for an on-line article!
TENC submitted first round procedure for PechaKucha, nerves!
Had first round interview with Thundafund for crowd funding!
Prep for 4 week workshop with CPUT Surface Design

There has also been much work on related art pieces:
The new suitcase, which carries the knitting to performances
3rd piece of knitting finished!
Exquiste Corpse yarn assemblage
D0INEEDTOSPELLITOUTFORYOU yarn assemblage

There have been some conversations:
It emerged from one, which the topic was around the size of classes and the non-streaming of classes; that a class consists of students with higher/lower aptitudes’/abilities. The comment was that the stronger students finish their work really quickly, get bored and start misbehaving. We discussed how these students could be used as tutors to help other students and the teachers. There could be high benefits from this arrangement. What stands in the way of such thinking and action is often a fear of relinquishing power from the teacher. These models need to be revised. Is it not more powerful to share power than to wield it?
In a conversation around tertiary teaching/lecturing, it emerged the necessity for lecturers to be involved in industry. This would keep the lecturer in touch with what is happening in the out-there world, be less idealistic and more pragmatic. Theory, projects, skills and techniques would be more viable and less fantastic. It would probably mean that the syllabus would be more aligned with what is going on in the world, anticipating what’s emerging, rather than reinforcing models which become fast obsolete.
